Today’s departure for New Jersey was delayed by Danielle, the first storm to achieve hurricane status of 2022.  After taking a leisurely, meandering journey across the open Atlantic before heading for Europe, Danielle churned up some heavy swells that would make our passage extremely uncomfortable. We decided to stay put.

Wanting to level up our horticulture knowledge and skills, Claudia did her thing and planned us a trip to visit the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, the greenest block in all of Brooklyn. We explored over 15 gardens and a conservatory, a vast range of plants from desert shrubs to roses, water lilies, exotic herbs, tropical trees and cherry blossoms within a stunning 52-acre garden in this truly urban wonderland. What a heck of a day.

After taking the Q-train back to the boat , we were greeted by the most gracious and welcoming folks at the Miramar Yacht Club. The club commodore David and others invited us for cocktail and wanted to swap sea stories with us. We ended up staying and chatted with them and finding that these are truly boat and sea loving people; they enjoy promoting sailing and seamanship as well as sharing knowledge and helping people. We’ve never seen more sincere hospitality in over 35 years of sailing.
