Yesterday we were saddened when we heard on our marine VHF radio from the United States Coast Guard Northeast searching for a missing man who set sail from Massachusetts late last month. Matthew Dennis, 22, left Salem on Sept. 22 in a white 28-foot fiberglass sailboat. They are asking anyone who has information to contact them. Our prayers are with him and hoping it’s simply a matter of comm equipment failure and he’s unable to send updates.

We weigh anchor at 8:30 on a glorious fall morning full of sunshine. The wind was light so we motored most of the way. We tried to raise sails a few times when occasional winds piped up but soon realized mother nature is just teasing us with her sense of humor.

Boat traffic on the Potomac was very light especially on a holiday long weekend. Claudia said with schools in session, most people have family activities on weekends and with NFL season in full swing, couch potatos are in football haven. I did have  opportunities to watch the Pats and the Bucs games while underway.

We entered Kingcote creek, dodged crab pots and oyster sticks, then found ourselves a beautiful anchorage. Claudia made her first attempt at a “one pot meal” of Japanese Chicken Curry with steamed white rice. A big success! We enjoyed her fruit of labor and watched the sunset before the most amazing October Harvest moon graced us with her beauty in the harbor sky.
