After spending 5 days on a mooring, we left St Augustine for a quick 20 mile trip south. Since we desperately needed to fill our freshwater tank, we stayed at a quiet Palm Coast marina and gave Fujiko a complete washing down. Next day we sailed 40 miles down to New Smyrna Beach, dropped anchored for the night and enjoyed seeing some very playful dolphins before heading to Titusville.

Traveling south along the ICW and approaching Titusville FL we couldn’t help but notice a giant white building off to the left. We were seeing Cape Canaveral and the giant white building was what NASA calls the Vehicle Assembly building. This is where they piece together the Space Shuttles and other rockets before rolling them out to the launch pads. There is a strange feeling of familiarity when you see something in person that you had seen many times on TV, but when it comes to large structures, TV just isn’t able to capture the grandness of these buildings; it is a “must see” in a travel list.

For now, visiting Cape Canaveral would have to wait; we are only interested in pulling into the marina and getting ourselves prepared for a sidetrip to Disney World in Orlando about 50 miles west. Our Disney trip was supposed to have happened three years ago in 2020 but we all know what transpired then when the world came to a complete halt. The theme parks tickets was the only purchase that was non-refundable but they retained their values. Claudia arranged a Hertz car rental and Holiday Inn Express stay. We will finally be driving a car and staying on land for a few days. Let’s see how well we will adjust to life away from the seas.
